Do you know the shortcut formulas for finding curl and div? They are curl F = ∇ × F and div F = ∇ · F, where ∇ (del) is the differential operator 

 

∇ = ∂/∂x i + ∂/∂y j + ∂/∂z k .

 

Could you explain further what r is? Is this just some unspecified function of x and y?
