Parsons deli orders brisket delivered every month. Last month the order was for 38 pounds and cost 304 including delivery charges which are always the same for any size order. The delivery company charges 38 for delivery how much will this months order 50 pounds cost includin

Mnjg, if we let c = the cost of each pound ordered, then our equation looks like...

 

38 + 38c = 304

 

The first 38 is the constant shipping cost. The 2nd 38 is the cost of each pound, multiplied by the number of pounds.

 

Subtracting 38 from both sides...

 

38c = 266

 

Dividing both sides by 38...

 

c = 7

 

What changes if we order 50? The 2nd 38 becomes 50

 

38 + 50c = ?

38 + 50(7) = ?

38 + 350 = 388

 

So, 50 lbs would cost $388.
