Given the following information, determine if one of the brands is a better buy.
Brand A: 14 ounces for $44.66
Brand B: 20 ounces for $63.80

You just divide the price by the ounces to get the price per ounce:

 

Brand A:  $44.66 / 14 ounces = $3.19/ounce

 

Brand B:  $63.80 / 20 ounces = $3.19/ounce

 

 

Both items are priced the same per ounce.

for 1 ounce = 44.66/14=$ 3.19

 

 

Brand B: 20 ounces for $63.80

For 1 ounce=63.80/20=$ 3.19

 

So you can buy any brand.Both are equally priced.

You can form a cost/ounce ratio and compare the ratios. The lesser of the ratios is the better buy, since you are paying less per ounce.

 

Cost/Ounce

A: 44.66/14 = $3.19/ounce

B: 63.80/20 = $3.19/ounce

 

They are apparently equally good buys.
