Your student Gov. surveryed three homeroom classes, and 55 of 90 students said that they would definitely buy a yearbook. If your school has 2000 students, approximately how many books should be ordered?

You can solve this using a proportion.  The ratio of students to total in the survey will be the same for the whole school.

 

55/90 = x/2000

 

Cross multiply and solve:

 

90*x = 55*2000

90x = 110000

x = 1222.2

 

Obviously you wouldn't by .2 of a yearbook, so you should round to 1222 yearbooks.
