There are multiple chickens and rabbits in a cage. There are 72 heads and 200 feet inside of the cage. How many chickens are in there and how many rabbits?

Big cage. LOL But OK. Let R = rabbits and C = chickens.

 

Rabbits and chickens each have one head apiece.

 

So your heads equation is

R + C = 72

 

But rabbits have four feet and chickens two.

 

So your feet equation is

4R + 2C = 200 or 2R + C = 100 after dividing by 2.

 

Now, if you subtract your heads equation from your feet equation you get R = 28. That's your number of rabbits. Meaning you have 44 chickens.
