To get a better feel for the relationship between y=2^x and its derivative, look at a table of values for y=2^x and dy/dx for x = 0, 1,.....,10

 

What is meant by table of values?

 

If x = 1 etc, wouldn't the derivative be zero?

Take the derivative of the function before you plug in any values for x  

 

f'(x) = (2^x)*ln2  

 

So f'(0) = (2^0)*ln2 = ln2  

     f'(1) = (2^1)*ln2 = 2*ln2 

     ...

     etc.
