What is a language subgroup?

In comparison to a language family, a language group, etc., what is a language subgroup within a region?

Among language classification, sub group  comes under language family and then language group. For  instance for Indo-European language family  Indo-Iranian group contains 300 languages   with several subgroups or languages that total 45 languages and all their dialects. Next group is Greek and it is comprised of only two languages or subgroups.
