Arielle sold $3735 worth of building materials. What percent of commission did she receive if she earned $672.30?

what i thought i was supposed to do was.. i did a proportion. 

 

672.30/3735 = x/100

 

because since it said what percent, i thought it had something to do with a proportion. the answer I got was 25110.41 ..... but i thought it was wrong, because it was WAY TO BIG! so i just wanted to know how in the world I do this... It's been a while since we did Commission and stuff like that.

Your set up tis correct, but your arithmetic is not.

 

672.3        x

------  =  ----

3735       100

 

Now cross multiply and you have

 

67230 = 3735x

 

and divide by 3735

 

x = 18

x = 18%
