Solving quadratic equation.

If 2 is one of the solution of the equation x² —8x + k=0 , find k and the other solution.

Well, you'll get k by substituting 2 for x.

 

k = 12

 

so x^2 - 8x + 12 = 0

 

And if you factor out x-2, because you know that's one of the factors if 2 is a solution, then the other factor is x-6. :-)
