Question

Crystal started biking to the library traveling 14 mph, after some time the bike got a flat so Crystal walked the rest of the way, traveling 7 mph. If the total trip to the library took 11 hours and it was 112 miles away, how long did Crystal travel at each speed?

Answer 1

x            hours spent on the bike

11 - x     Hours spent on foot

 

14mph x hrs +  7mph (11 -x)hrs = 112 mi

14x mi + 77 mi - 7x mi = 112 mi

7 x mi = 35 mi

x = 5
