I have to assume the 2, just to the left of the equal sign is an exponent and not a factor.  The equation would look like this.

 

3(x-2)² = 21

 

Divide by 3

 

(x-2)² = 7

 

x-2 = ±√7

 

x = 2±√7

 

x = 2-√7, 2+√7

 

Since √7 = 2.646, then we can say

x = -0.646, 4.646
