Hi Femia,

 

First convert to improper fractions:

 

4 1/2 = 9/2

 

3 3/4 = 15/4

 

Now we need a common denominator. . . 4 looks good so convert 9/2 into 18/4 by multiplying top and bottom by 2.

 

Now subtract--> 18/4 - 15/4 = 3/4
