word problem multiplication/or division with mix number (question 3)

Question

A farmer's land is separated into 5 equally sized sections. If the farmer owns a total of 9 1/6 acres of land, how many acres are in each section?

 

Write your answer as a mixed number in simplest form.

Here you do the exact same thing as with the road and number of days

Here you have 9 1/6 acres divide  by 5.

 

9 1/6 = 55/6 acres how do you get this? Multiply 9 by 6 and add 1 to get the number above the bottom number remain 6.

 

(55/6)/5 since the first number is a fraction the 5 at the bottom can be written as 5 = 5/1

(55/6)/5/1 = (55/6)*(1/5) =11/6  write the answer as mixed number

 

 

Number of acres in each section is 1 5/6 acres
