The probability of an event is 7/10.  Find the odds in favor of this event occurring

With probability we look at the chance of something occurring over the total.  With odds we look at the chance of something occurring over the chance that it does not occur.

 

If the probability of an event is 7/10, then the probability that the event does not occur, or 3/10

 

Then the odds of the event are 7:3
