x and y are your two numbers.
When you multiply them you get X times Y= XY
So, x is decreased by 25% and y is decreased by 50%.
The new numbers would be 0.75X and 0.5Y
When you multiply these two numbers you get .75X times .5Y = 0.375XY

To find the percent decrease, you subtract this total from the original amount

1XY - .375XY = .625XY
