Hi Dalton, let W be the width of the painting. Then the length is 2W -11.75 inches. Using the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle, and the perimeter of the painting, 102.5 inches, we can find the length and the width.
Formula:
P = 2L + 2W
Substitute:
102.5 = 2(2W - 11.75) + 2W
Solve for W:
102.5 = 4W - 23.5 + 2W
Add 23.5 to both sides:
6W = 126
W = 21 inches
Length:
L = 2W - 11.75
L = 2 * 21 - 11.75
L = 42 - 11.75
L = 30.25 inches
Dimension of painting:
The Mona Lisa is 21 inches wide and 30.25 inches long.
