Air moves through the respiratory system in the following order:
Nose or mouth: Air is breathed in through the nostrils or mouth.
Pharynx: The air passes through the pharynx, which is the back of the throat.
Larynx: The air then passes through the larynx, which contains the vocal cords.
Trachea: The air then moves into the trachea, or windpipe, which carries air to the lungs.
Bronchi: The trachea splits into two bronchi, each leading to a lung.
Bronchioles: The bronchi divide into smaller bronchioles, which then divide into even smaller airways called alveolar ducts.
Alveoli: The alveolar ducts lead to tiny air sacs called alveoli, where oxygen is transferred into the bloodstream and carbon dioxide is removed.
After this, the air is exhaled back out of the body in the reverse order.
