If you start with a wire of length x and bend it into ANY two-dimensional shape (square, triangle, circle, ellipse, pentagon, rectangle, etc.) the perimeter of the shape you end up with must be exactly the same as the length of the wire you started with, which is just x. Try doing an experiment with your phone charging wire (or some other flexible wire) to see the different shapes you can get, all of which have the same perimeter (which is just the length of the wire).
