Helpp meeeeeeeee  a^12-4a^2 factor does ths work?

They are probably looking for the answer:
a2(a10 - 4)
 
This is derived by looking for the common factors in each term:
a12-4a2 = a2a10-4a2
Each term has a factor of a2 in it so that can be factored out giving:
a2(a10-4)
 
However; as Bill pointed out we can further factor a10-4 because this is a
difference of two squares.  Remember the fact that
a2-b2 = (a-b)(a+b)
a10-4 = (a5)2 - 2 = (a5-2)(a5+2)
 
Thus a2(a10-4) = a2(a5-2)(a5+2)
