34 ft - 26 ft= 8 ft.    So the river has to drop 8 ft to be at level of 26 ft.  Use proportion method to find how many days for the river to receed 8 ft.             

                      .5ft ⁄1day  =  8ft ⁄x                  
                  

Cross multiply to get        .5x = 8  

Divide both sides by .5     .5x ⁄.5 = 8 ⁄.5

and you get      x = 16 days
