Two men can paint 3 rooms in an 8 hour day. If they have 5 men on a crew and are working for
10 hours, how many rooms can they paint?

Answer 1

3 rooms in an 8 hr day equates to

3/8 room per hour per 2 men or

3/16 room per man per hour

 

In other words if each man does

the same amount of work then each

man completes

3/16 of a room each hour

 

5 men will complete 

5(3/16) = 15/16 rooms per hour

 

In a 10 hour period they will complete

(15/16 rm/hr)(10 hr) = 150/16 rooms

= 9 3/8 rooms
