Making Math Make Sense
First, the location of the graph is denoted by the y-intercept...so that is where we draw our attention (and our first point).
Place a point on the y-axis at 8. Next, we must determine the direction/slope/steepness of the line (since technically there are infinitely many lines that could pass through that exact point.)
Remember: Slope = rise/run= vertical change/horizontal change
The slope is -5, which when converted into a fraction (-5/1), represents the "rise"/"run". The numerator (-5) tells us to "rise" (actually drop) -5 units, and the denominator (1) tells us to "run" to the right 1 unit.
Your second point will occur at (1, 3).
Now, connect your two points and voila...you are done!
