what happened to other dollar

bob wanted to buy a sweater which cost $97.00.  Mom gave him $50.00 and dad gave him $50.00.  He bought the sweater and received $3.00 change.  He gave dad $1.00 and mom $1.00 and kept $1.00 for himself.  Now to pay his mom and dad back $49.00 to mom and $49.00 to dad and he owes $1.00.  What happened to the other dollar?

Mom gave him $50 and received back $1.  So, she's given Bob a total of $49.  Likewise, Dad gave Bob $50 and received back $1. So, he's also given Bob a total of $49.

 

Bob has received $49 from Mom and $49 from Dad, for a total of $98.  Bob is still keeping $1 for himself. He should return it to Mom and Dad equally by giving each of them 50 cents.
