A railroad inspector must inspect 16/29 of a mile of a railroad track. If she already inspected 1/29 of a mile, how much more does she need to inspect.

I'm pretty sure they're using subtraction, but I don't want to guess.

You are correct is using subtraction!
 
16/29 - 1/29 = 15/29
 
He has 15/29 of a mile to go.
