At the pet fair, Darlene's dog weighted 5 times as much as Leah's dog. Together, the dogs weighed 84 pounds. How much did each dog weigh?

Since x = 5y, substitute this into the other equation x + y =84. So 5y +y = 84. Add your y's together so 6y = 84. Divide by 6 makes it y = 14 = Leah's Dog. weight.
