8y²=x² is not a parabola. Take the square root on both sides and get

 

√8y=±x

 

These are the equations for two straight lines passing through the origin, one with positive slope, the other with negative slope, like an X.

You can graph this in your graphing calculator by isolating y y= √x² /√8 or y=x/√8 and puting it into the graphing mode. you can also graph it by finding the parabola limits. 

To do this you set x to zero and find the possible answers and set y to zero and find the possible answer and graph the points. so if y=0 x= 0 therefore 1 point is (0,0) 

now you can create a table by inserting numbers in for x and solve for y if x=4 then 8y² =16 or y= √2 (4, √2) and (-4, √2) x=16 then  8y2 = 256 and y² = 32 and y = √32 or 4√2 with points at (16, 4√2) and (-16, 4√2) 

 

Just plot the points and create the parabola
