Some boys are sharing a packet of potato chips.if each boy eats 10 pieces there will be 3 pieces short.If each boy eats 9 pieces there will be 4 pieces left.How many pieces of potato chips are there in the packet?

Let N = number of potato chips in the packet

 

Let x = number of boys

 

Then, 10x - 3 = N   and 9x + 4 = N

 

So, 10x - 3 = 9x + 4

 

                x = 7

 

N = 10(7) - 3 = 67 potato chips
