One number is 11 more than twice another number
"one number" is x
"another number is y"
So, x=11+2y is how we can write the first sentence.
If the sum of the numbers is twice their difference, find the numbers.
We can write this sentence as:
x+y=2(x-y)
Now, use the first equation to substitute for x in the second equation. This will give you y; then use that value in either equation to find x.
