the mean of the 2 numbers is 37/2=18.5

the 2 numbers are 18 and 19

If one integer is x, the next consecutive integer is x+1

 

For this problem where two consecutive integers add to 37 we have

 

x+x+1=37

2x+1=37

2x=36

x=18

x+1=19

 

18+19=37
