The equation is in the form y=mx + b which if you remember is the basic slope formula. Given that m is the slope and you have two points, the slope is 1/2 and b is -2. Given this information, the slope formula would be y= - 1/2(x) - 2 which would give you the correct equation. There may be other ways to solve it, but this is certainly one of the equations for these points. This is a logical approach, but I do not know if this is the way your instructor wanted you to solve the problem.
