Your method for number two doesn't work.  It only works when you have set everything equal to 0.  Checking your second solution in the original equation, you'd get:
2(10)^2=13(10)+7
2(100)=130+7
200=137

Your method with number 2 only works when set equal to zero.  If you check your second solution in the original equation, you'd end up with 200=137.
