You have √8 + √2. Now, when simplifying square roots, you want to get all of the perfect squares out of the square root. 2 cannot be written as the square of another integer but 8 = 2 * 2² and that 2² can be pulled outside.

√8 + √2 = √(2*2²) + √2.

Now we use our rule for radicals:√(ab) = √a√b on the first term.

√8 + √2 = (√2)(√2²) + √2. And we know that the square root of a number squared is the number itself.

√8 + √2 = 2√2 + √2

Now both terms on the right have a √2 in them so it can be factored out.

√8 + √2 = √2(2 + 1) = 3√2
