asked 07/18/15What is the approximate probability that a point chosen insdie the rectangle is in the shaded region?
1st Shaded region: 2 m
1st Non-shaded region: 3 m

The side of the rectangle being 4 m
(All the sides are 4 m for every one of the shaded and non shaded regions)
A) 0.29
B) 0.43
C) 0.48

IF I understand the problem A is the answer 0.29
at first it looks like Pr(shaded) = 2/3 and 1/2 which average to (1/2)(2/3+1/2) = (1/2)(7/6) = 7/12
but divide that by 2 due to the sides of the rectangle being 4, to get 7/24 = about 0.29
