A function has an independent variable and a dependent variable; the function produces one or no value of the dependent variable for each allowable value of the independent variable.
In this problem the independent variable is the length of time the tree has been growing (say, Y for years).
The dependent variable is the height of the tree (say, H for height).
To be a function [ H = f(Y) ], we are saying that, for each possible value of Y (years) there is one or no value for H (height).
Is that true or false?
