3(x-5) = 3x-15
so 3x-15+2x = x-12
we can combine 3x+2x to get 5x
so 5x-15 = x-12
now 5x-15-x = x-x-12 => 4x-15 = -12
now add 15 to both sides
4x-15+15 = -12+15 => 4x = 3 => x=3/4 and that's the final answer
