1. The number of subsets of a set is always equal to 2N, where N is the number of elements in the set. Since there are 5 elements in x, there are 25 = 32 subsets. This includes the null set and the set itself, which are both subsets of the set.
2. Since x has 5 elements, or members, any 4-element subset will have all the elements except one. There are 5 different elements that can be eliminated, so there are 5 different 4-element subsets.
