You play a gamed e that requires rolling a six-sided then randomly choosing a colored card from a deck containing 3 red cards, 8 blue cards, and 6 yellow cards.  Find the probability that you will roll a 2 on the die and then choose a blue card.

There is 1 two on the die out of 6 total sides. That means the probability you'll roll a two is 1/6.

 

There are 8 blue cards in the deck out of 17 total cards. That means the probability you'll draw a blue card is 8/17.

 

 

Since the two events are independent (the card you draw isn't affected by the number you roll), multiply the two probabilities to get the probability that both will occur:

 

(1/6)(8/17) = 8/102 = 4/51
