3 boys are asked to clean a surface that is 4ft². if the portion is divided equally among the boys, what size will each of them clean

The surface area is 4 square feet.  We are not given any linear dimensions, so all we can do is allocate the area.

 

Divide 4 square feet by 3

 

Each boy will clean 4/3 square feet
