Let's look at the data as two entities.... the symbols <,^,> and then the numbers
the symbols appear in the order <,^,>,<,^,>,<,^
this is a repeating sequence in sets of 3 with next symbol being >
Now let's look at the numbers
3,4,7,6,8,14,9,12
Break this down into groups of 3 giving 3,4,7 6,8,14 9,12,
Each set has the 3rd unit being the sum of the previous 2 numbers... 9+12 = 21
so the next number should be 21
Combine the next symbol with the next number and you get the next entry being >21
