What is the point of Music Theory?

Music theory helps explain why things sound the way they do. It can be as simple as understanding how to spell a chord or as complex as analyzing an entire piece of music. The point is, music theory can be both easy and challenging. Many people struggle with memorizing rules for chords and scales, but once you overcome that, a whole new world of musical possibilities opens up.

One common misconception is that you need to be able to sight-read to be competent in music theory, but that's not true. Music theory is more about understanding and analyzing music, and while it can support sight-reading, it's really about how you think about and approach music.
