This problem can be solve using a system of equations.
3x = 2y
y - x = 1 (letting y be the bigger number)
Use the substitution method to solve the system. Solving for y in the second equation is quite simple.
y = x + 1
Replace y in the first equation with x + 1.
3x = 2(x + 1)
Then, solve for x.
3x = 2x + 2
x = 2
Use the value of x to find y.
y - 2 = 1
y = 3
The numbers and 2 and 3. Notice that they satisfy both equations.
3x = 2y
3(2) = 2(3)
y - x = 1
3 - 2 = 1

There is a mistake when solving x - y = 1 for y. The result should be x - 103/05/24
