The product of two negative numbers is a positive number.

This should have been covered in Pre-Algebra.

(-1)¹ = -1

(-1)² = (-1)(-1) = 1

(-1)³ = (-1)(-1)(-1) = -1

If n is even, then (-1)ⁿ = 1

If n is odd, then (-1)ⁿ = -1
