j(x) = 34x - 6

j(x) = 12 then

12 = 34x - 6

12 + 6 = 34x

18 = 34x

18/34 = x

9/17 = x

Since your function is a line, you can graph it to confirm that the point (9/17, 12) or (0.5294, 12) is on your line. You can graph it at Desmos.com. I hope this helps.
