f(x) = 2x - 6
x = 2[f-1(x)] - 6
x + 6 = 2[f-1(x)]
(x - 6) / 2 = f-1(x)

To find the inverse write the equation in terms of x and y: y=2x-6
Switch the x and y value x = 2y - 6
Solve for y x + 6 = 2y
x/2 + 6/2 = 2y/2
x/2 + 3 = y or y = (1/2)(x) + 3
f-1(x) = (1/2)x + 3
