You should start off by translating the question into equation form.
since the question says the sum of two integers is 113 we can assign a variable to both our unkown numbers and make the first one x and the second y
we then follow the question and make
x+y=113
it then says that the larger number is 17 more than 33 times the smaller
lets choose x as the greater number and y as the smaller
that means that
x+17=33y
you then solve the system of system of equations with substitution by subtracting the y from both sides of the x+y=113 equation
x=113-y
you then plug that in to the second equation
(113-y)+17=33y and solve for y
The problem makes more sense if you meant "17 more than 3 times the smaller number", so that's what I'll assume.
Let x be the smaller number and y be the larger number. Their sum is 113:
x + y = 113
The larger number is 17 more than 3 times the smaller number:
y = 3x + 17
Substitute 3x + 17 in place of y in the first equation and solve for x, the smaller number. Plug that value into the second equation to get the value of y, the larger number.
