I make difficult math fun, interesting, and easier.
5x−3y=8 describes a line that passes through the point (-1,?).
Since -1 is the x-coordinate, I can substitute -1 for x in the equation:
5(-1)-3y=8
I can then simplify:
-5-3y=8
Now I can add 5 to both sides:
-3y=13
And divide both sides by -3:
y=-13/3=-4 1/3.
So the line 5x-3y=8 passes through the point (-1,-4 1/3).
