1. A 24-milliliter beaker that is 70% full is poured into a 48-milliliter beaker that is 30% full. How full will the 48-milliliter beaker be after the liquid is transferred from the smaller beaker?

Since the smaller beaker is holding 24 ml, you will find 70% or 0.70 time the 24 ml. 0.70(24)

Next you will find how much is in the larger 48 ml is holding. Since is filled 30% of the way, you will take 30% or 0.30 of the 48 ml. 0.30(48)

Now you are ready to combine the amounts. (0.70(24) + 0.30(48)) divided by 48.

What you are doing here is taking the part you have and dividing it by the total, which will give you the percent it is full.

So the idea is to find how much is in the small beaker, that is 0.70(24) = 16.8 ml.

Then find out how much is already in the big beaker, that is 0.30(48) = 14.4ml

Since they will be both inside the 48-ml beaker, we can add them, 16.8+14.4=31.2 ml

Lastly, to find out how full will the 48-ml beaker be, 31.2/48 = 0.65 or 65% full.
