1 - i - 4 + 5i Now combine the real numbers and then combine the imaginary numbers. Always write your answer with real numbers first:

-3 + 4i

1(-4) + 1(-5i) - i(-4) - i(-5i)

-4 -5i + 4i + 5i²

Since i = √-1, i² = -1

-4 - 5i + 4i + 5(-1)

-4 - 5i + 4i - 5

-9 - i
