In order to write an equation of a line, you need a point and a slope.
Using the equation x-y=5, we re-write this in y=mx+b form => y=x-5 and we see that the slope of this equation is 1. Parallel lines have the same slope therefore the slope of our line passing through (-5,-2) is also 1.
So we have the equation y = 1x + b, or y = x + b, and we can use our point (-5,-2) to determine the value of b.
-2 = -5 + b, therefore b = 3.
The equation of our line is y = x + 3.
