The key here is to isolate x so that it is the only term on one side of the = sign. Here is the procedure:
We start with by/x + c = a/m
Multiply both sides of the equation by x.
by + cx = x(a/m)
Reduce the equation to an equation with only one term involving x.
by + cx -x(a/m) = 0
by + x(c-a/m) = 0
Isolate the term involving x from all other terms.
x(c-a/m) = -by
Isolate x.
x = -by/(c-a/m)
Or, if you like, get rid of the – sign.
X=by/(a/m-c)
